In October 2018, the BCA Council approved a proposal from BCA Women in Badminton Commission for the introduction of an annual African Women in Badminton Award (AWIBA).
The objectives of the AWIBA are:
- To reward outstanding women who have contributed to the development of badminton in Africa by demonstrating irreproachable attitude and dedication to the sport in their respective fields (player/administrator/technica
l official/official/coach and other roles) for the current and/or previous years. - To motivate women to get involved in badminton – whether in Africa or elsewhere.
- To create role models for other women (and men).
- To celebrate the achievements of African women in badminton.
