The final preparations for the Africa AirBadminton Championships Uganda 2026 moved into place on Tuesday, 15 September, as Team Managers from participating nations met in Entebbe ahead of the continental competition.
The Team Managers’ Meeting and official draw took place one day before the championships begin at Aero Beach, Entebbe, where the continent’s AirBadminton players will compete from 16 to 19 September 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for team representatives to receive the final tournament information, go through the competition arrangements and confirm the groups ahead of the first matches.
With 14 African nations and more than 120 participants expected in Uganda, the meeting marked the final step before competition gets underway. The championships also form part of the qualification pathway for the next World AirBadminton event.
The draw is out
The draw placed the participating teams into three groups, setting up the first stage of the competition.
Group A
- Benin
- Tunisia
- Algeria
Group A brings together teams from West and North Africa. Benin will face Tunisia and Algeria as the teams begin their campaign in Entebbe.
Group B
- Egypt
- Burundi
- Rwanda
Group B features defending champions Egypt alongside East African neighbours Burundi and Rwanda. The three teams will meet as they look to progress through the opening stage.
Group C
- Mauritius
- Uganda
- Burkina Faso
The hosts Uganda have been drawn in Group C with Mauritius and Burkina Faso.
For Uganda, the draw means that the home team will begin its championship campaign against two different opponents, with every group match important in determining the teams that move forward.
Uganda ready on home soil
The draw adds another layer of excitement to a championship that has been building for several months.
Uganda returns to the continental AirBadminton stage as host after previously winning the championship in Mauritius. The 2026 edition has also grown considerably, with the event now attracting 14 nations and more than 120 participants.
Playing at Aero Beach will also give the athletes the opportunity to compete in familiar surroundings while experiencing the unique conditions that come with AirBadminton.
From the meeting to the court
With the Team Managers’ Meeting completed and the groups confirmed, attention now turns to the players.
The championship will officially begin on Wednesday, 16 September, with the opening matches at Aero Beach.
For the teams, the draw has provided a clear picture of their first challenges. For the organisers, it marks the completion of another important stage in preparing for four days of continental AirBadminton.
The beach is ready, the teams are in place and the groups have been decided.
Now, it is time for the AirShuttle to fly.
The Africa AirBadminton Championships will run from 16–19 September in Entebbe, followed by the Zone 5 Regional Championships and BWF/BCA AirBadminton Training Camp from 20–22 September.
