All Africa Senior Badminton Championships 2026
Royal Aria Gymnasium – Gaborone, Botswana
Day 2 | Morning Session – 10 February
The second morning in Gaborone opened with a different kind of energy.
If Day 1 was about introductions and first impressions, Day 2 was about confirmation. Teams returned to the Royal Aria Gymnasium sharper, more settled, and fully aware that the group stage is unforgiving. There is little room for hesitation now, only clarity of purpose.
Across all four courts, the message was consistent: the contenders are beginning to separate themselves.
Mauritius play with authority and unity
On Court 1, Mauritius delivered a disciplined and tranquil team performance against Seychelles in the Men’s Team Group D tie.
From the opening singles match, Mauritius set the tone through structure and control. Their players dictated the pace rather than reacting to it. Movements were economical, shot selection was precise, and transitions from defense to attack were smooth. It was a morning built on focus rather than emotion.
What stood out most was the cohesion. Whether in singles or doubles, the Mauritian players looked connected, communicating clearly, supporting each other between rallies, and maintaining intensity from start to finish.
In the doubles matches, their partnerships reflected trust and preparation. Rotations were sharp, the front-court presence was assertive, and momentum never drifted. It was a performance that spoke of a team growing in confidence as the group stage progresses.
Nigeria’s depth and discipline on full display
Court 2 featured Nigeria against Ghana in Group A, and Nigeria’s performance highlighted the value of depth within a squad.
Each singles player approached the tie with maturity, building rallies patiently before accelerating at the right moments. There was no rush, only clear execution. Nigeria’s ability to maintain consistency across three singles matches underlined the balance within their lineup.
In doubles, the intensity increased. Exchanges were faster, reactions sharper, and the partnerships showed strong understanding under pressure. Even when momentum briefly shifted, Nigeria responded calmly, reinforcing their reputation as one of the most structured sides in the competition.
The overall impression was of a team comfortable with its identity and confident in its preparation.
Egypt’s composure reflects talent
On Court 3, Egypt faced Zimbabwe in Group B in a tie that showcased control and tournament maturity.
Egypt’s singles players demonstrated intelligent match management. They adjusted when required, absorbed pressure, and imposed rhythm when opportunities appeared. Even in moments where rallies extended and resistance grew, Egypt remained composed.
Their doubles combinations reinforced that stability. Communication was constant, positioning disciplined, and attacking sequences were constructed with patience rather than haste. It was not just about power, it was about precision.
Zimbabwe showed resilience and spirit, but Egypt’s ability to maintain clarity in key phases of play proved decisive. Performances like this reinforce why Egypt remain among the benchmark nations at this championship.
Algeria underline their ambition
Court 4 saw Algeria, the current champions take on Zambia in Group C, and the encounter carried an edge from the outset.
The opening singles match was physically demanding, with long exchanges testing endurance and tactical adaptability. Algeria’s response was built on resilience, staying committed to their structure even when rallies extended and pressure mounted.
As the tie progressed, Algeria’s confidence grew. Their singles players imposed greater authority in mid-court exchanges, while the doubles pairs demonstrated sharp front-court control and strong tactical discipline.
Zambia competed with energy and determination, but Algeria’s ability to remain consistent across all matches reflected a team with clear ambitions beyond the group phase.
The group stage sharpens the field
With four ties unfolding simultaneously from 9:00 AM, the Royal Aria Gymnasium felt alive from the first shuttle struck. Coaches moved constantly between courts, teammates studied opponents closely, and every rally carried meaning.
Day 2 morning was not dramatic, it was decisive as every team wants to qualify to the knockout stage.
The leading nations showed structure, depth, and composure. The group stage is beginning to take shape, and with each session, the margins grow thinner.
As the championship progresses, the intensity is expected to rise further as teams position themselves for qualification and knockout contention.
