The dust had barely settled on the Team Relay before the players were back on the sand.
After two days of intense team competition at Aero Beach, where every point carried the weight of an entire nation’s hopes, Day 2 brought a new challenge. The Team Relay had found its champion, but for the players still hungry for more, there was little time to celebrate or reflect.
The AABC Doubles & Triples Mixed competition was ready to begin.
At 17:00 local time in Entebbe, the first individual matches stepped onto the courts, opening another chapter of the Africa AirBadminton Championships.
On Court 1, Benin Guepard 4 and Algeria 3 were the first to test themselves in the mixed doubles. What followed was a contest that refused to settle easily. Benin took the opening two games 9–7 and 9–4, but Algeria responded in the third, fighting back to win it 10–8 and keeping the match alive.
There was a sense that the momentum could change.
But Benin stayed composed. They closed the fourth game 9–3 to take the match 3–1.
At the neighbouring court, the home crowd had another reason to watch closely as Egypt XD 3 faced Uganda XD 2.
For Uganda, the individual championships offered a fresh opportunity after the emotions of the Team Relay. This time, there was a new competition, a new draw and another chance to give the home supporters something to cheer about.
Egypt, however, started strongly, taking the opening game 9–1.
Uganda answered immediately, winning the second 9–6 and showing that they were not ready to let the match slip away. Egypt then regained control, taking the third 9–5 before finishing the contest with a 9–3 fourth game to win 3–1.
The evening continued with Tunisia XD 1 taking on Benin Guepard 2, and Benin produced one of the more convincing performances of the opening individual matches.
There was little separating the two sides in the early exchanges, but Benin steadily took control, winning the three games 9–5, 9–2 and 9–3 to complete a 3–0 victory.
Three matches, three different stories.
For some players, the day brought the excitement of moving forward. For others, it brought the disappointment of an early exit. But the beauty of the individual championships is that every player now has a chance to write a story of their own.
The Team Relay was about standing together.
Now, it is about partnerships, trust and the ability to find the right rhythm with another player on the sand.
And with the individual competition only just beginning, there is still a long road ahead.
The title has not been decided. The big moments have not all arrived. There will be more close games, more comebacks and, perhaps, more unexpected stories waiting to unfold at Aero Beach.
The Team Relay may have closed one chapter.
But the individual championships have opened another.
And the tournament is far from over.
