The individual competition at the Africa AirBadminton Championships moved deeper into the knockout stages at Aero Beach in Entebbe, with the men’s doubles draw reaching the Round of 16. After coming through the earlier rounds, the remaining pairs were now one victory away from the quarter-finals and another step closer to the medals.
On Court 1, Benin’s Oswald Fano-Dosh and Carlos Kpanou produced a convincing performance against Uganda’s Denis Mukasa and Ronald Nsubuga. The Beninese pair controlled the match from the start, winning the opening game 9–6. They maintained the same advantage in the second game, again winning 9–6, before closing out the match 9–5 in the third for a 3–0 victory.
Egypt also moved through the Round of 16 with a straight-games win. A. Abdelsattar and Ashraf A. faced Mauritius’ Tevin Dookhee and Gervais Rampersand and took the opening game 9–4. The Egyptian pair continued to apply pressure in the second game, winning 9–3, before completing the match with a 9–5 third game.
Mauritius also secured a place in the next stage through Tevin Bhoyroo and Ashvin Lubah. The pair faced Comoros’ B. Chamsidine and S. Mohamed and produced a controlled performance. Mauritius won the first game 9–4 and then extended its advantage with a 9–2 second game. Comoros tried to stay in the contest, but Bhoyroo and Lubah finished strongly to win the third 9–6 and take the match 3–0.
NOC- Kenya’s Edwin Akwanyi and Sammy Mdogo Sikoyo also advanced after defeating Tunisia’s A. Khayati and M. Somrani. The NOC – Kenyans had to work hard in the opening game before taking it 9–7. They then created more separation in the second game, winning 9–5, and completed a 3–0 victory with a 9–4 third game.
With the Round of 16 now underway, the men’s doubles field has become increasingly competitive. The pairs still in contention know that the next matches will be even more important, with a place in the quarter-finals and a chance to move closer to the medals at stake.
The individual competition continues at Aero Beach as the remaining players and pairs look to keep their campaigns alive in Entebbe.
