In a momentous stride towards badminton development in Rwanda, the Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) and the Association Francophone de Badminton (AFB) recently organized the Shuttle Time Teachers Course and Training Camp from January 3rd to January 7th, 2024. This initiative, made possible through the membership grant from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), marked Rwanda’s official affiliation as the 47th country to join the BCA and BWF family.
The Shuttle Time Teachers Course, conducted from January 3rd to 4th, brought together 42 participants from across Rwanda, with a special focus on Kigali, the country’s capital. Under the guidance of esteemed experts, Mr. Bernardin Bokpe from BCA and Mr. Lamidi from Togo representing AFB, the course aimed to equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to impart the joys of badminton to the younger generation.
Following the successful teachers’ course, the Training Camp unfolded from January 5th to 7th, welcoming 24 enthusiastic players, all hailing from Kigali. This comprehensive program, led by the same experts, focused on honing the skills of budding badminton talents, paving the way for Rwanda’s emergence as a noteworthy player in the badminton community.
Alphonse Muhama, President of the Rwanda Badminton Federation, expressed his delight at Rwanda’s official affiliation with BCA and BWF. He stated,
“This will now help us to develop our players, coaches, technical officials, and also be in line to participate in BCA and BWF sanction tournaments. We are very eager to start this journey, and we hope that we will see developments very soon. We trust our badminton community here in Rwanda, and I know that they will honor us.”
The collaboration between BCA and AFB, with support from the BWF membership grant, underscores a shared commitment to nurturing badminton at both grassroots and competitive levels. This landmark event not only signifies the beginning of Rwanda’s badminton journey but also strengthens the global badminton community. The BCA welcomes the Rwanda Badminton Federation to its family, anticipating a future filled with growth, development, and numerous achievements on the badminton court.
