Shuttle Time Tutor, Badminton Federation of Congo
I was born in Kinshasa, the capital of D R Congo as the son of a diamond merchant. I was the eldest of 10 children. I’ve been passionate about sport since childhood, practicing karate, judo, football and athletics (100m, 200m, 400m and javelin throw).
In 2017, I obtained a diploma in physical medicine and rehabilitation, at the University of Kinshasa. I’m also a certified physical trainer.
Tryst with Badminton
I saw badminton for the first time in 2009 in Kinshasa during the start of the Congo Badminton Federation. It was a discovery for me, of a sporting discipline that I had never practiced. What I liked most was the fun style of play. I started training to become a badminton player and participated in several local and international tournaments.
In 2016 I became a badminton coach in the national team of DRC, after a Tutor workshop in Kinshasa. Currently I am a Level 1 badminton coach, Level 1 Para badminton coach, and level 2 National Classifier in Para badminton.
Memorable Events
The most memorable event was at the African Para badminton Championships 2022 in Uganda, where we managed to win three gold and three silver medals.
Badminton today represents for me a life, a passion and a job. Everything I do revolves around it.
Badminton is a sport that contributes to improving self-esteem and general physical fitness. Its particularity lies in the speed of reaction, which allows a person to make good decisions when solving a given problem.
Developing Badminton
Since 2015, I’ve worked as a volunteer in my community to enable the development of badminton. Through my work the majority of people in my neighbourhood and even in my town discovered the sport of badminton.
As an expert in sports science for people with disabilities, and collaborating with structures such as the National Olympic Committee, the National Paralympic Committee and the Special Olympics RDC, I fight for the promotion of social inclusion in sport in general and badminton in particular.
Impact of Shuttle Time
Teachers have discovered new sports educational concepts which do not exist in our educational environments. Teachers’ impressions are very positive regarding the impact of Shuttle Time. There is a great demand for training in rural areas. However, there are no PE and sports teachers. Shuttle Time has helped several teachers to have new ideas about sports pedagogy in schools during physical education and sports lessons.
Learning from Shuttle Time
Badminton has contributed a lot to my life. The greatest lesson of my life is that I learned to teach children and adults well in different areas of life.
In 2018, I completed a two-month internship in China in the city of Hanzhou, as coach of the DRC senior national badminton team, on strengthening technical-tactical capacities in badminton.
As a badminton tutor, I have already given two shuttle time training coursesn, in 2022 to teachers from schools specializing in intellectual disabilities, and in 2024 to teachers in a village in my country.
So in the year 2023, I had to complete the 3-months badminton and parabadminton coaching internship in Germany, within the Badminton-Verband-Sachsen e.v.(Leipzig) and the Niedersächsischer Badminton-Verband e.v.(Hannover), where I met the coach SVEN WEICHENHAIN and coach MICHAEL MAI
