Congratulations to Senegal for this well-deserved recognition! The BWF Shuttle Time Photo of the Year 2024 award is an outstanding achievement, highlighting the passion of the Senegalese Badminton Federation towards the development of the sport.
The President of the Senegalese Badminton Federation, Jean Joseph Diandy (Tony), expressed his immense joy and pride upon receiving this prestigious award.
“I am on cloud nine right now and I am proud of all my committee members as we have worked hard over the last few years, and we can now see the results of our efforts. Last year, we won the BCA Shuttle Time Award, and this year, we are honored to receive the BWF Shuttle Time Photo of the Year award. This recognition confirms our rapid progress, which has always been one of our key objectives.”
The BWF Shuttle Time Photo of the Year 2024 was a surprise win for Senegal, reinforcing the country’s commitment to making badminton accessible to all children.
“Winning this award was truly unexpected, but it is an incredible honor for us. It motivates us to continue promoting badminton in Senegal and ensuring that every child has a fair chance to learn and play the sport. Our vision at the federation is clear: to share, create opportunities, and promote inclusivity.”
Senegal is known for its strong sporting culture, with football, wrestling, and basketball being among the most dominant sports. However, President Diandy and his team are determined to make badminton a fast-growing sport in the country.
“We are tirelessly working to develop badminton, and with the support of my team and our stakeholders, I am confident that we will soon be among the top sports in Senegal.”
Further solidifying its commitment to inclusivity, the federation recently partnered with Special Olympics, an initiative that aligns with BWF’s mission of “Giving every child a chance to play badminton for life.”
“I am proud to announce that we have officially signed a partnership with Special Olympics, and next week, we will be organizing a Shuttle Time program dedicated to Special Olympics athletes. This initiative will ensure that badminton reaches even more young players, regardless of their background or abilities.”
While Senegal took home this prestigious award, Bulgaria also received the same recognition for their contribution to the Shuttle Time initiative. President Diandy extended his congratulations to Bulgaria, wishing them continued success in the development of badminton.
“I would like to congratulate Bulgaria for sharing this award with Senegal, and I sincerely wish them the best in their future badminton development efforts. A special thanks also goes to Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) for their tremendous support in helping us grow the sport in Senegal.”
With two major Shuttle Time awards in consecutive years, BCA Shuttle Time Award in 2023 and BWF Shuttle Time Photo of the Year in 2024, Senegal has demonstrated its rapid growth in badminton development.
This victory is not just about a single photo, it represents the efforts and passion of the entire Senegalese badminton community. With strong leadership, committed stakeholders, and an inclusive vision, badminton in Senegal is on the rise, and the future looks brighter than ever. Now that Senegal will be hosting the Youth Olympic Games next year in 2026, BWF and BCA are working with FESBAD on a legacy plan to ensure that they are ready for the games.
Congratulations once again to Senegal and President Jean Joseph Diandy (Tony) with his whole team on this incredible achievement!
