Day 1 Evening session of the Africa AirBadminton Championships 2024 at Mont Choisy Beach in Mauritius was an unforgettable day for Team Uganda, as they pulled off a thrilling victory over the host country in a hard-fought match that left fans in awe. The evening session included two competitive ties, with Uganda’s stunning win over Mauritius as the highlight.
In an intense and closely contested match, Uganda won over Mauritius with a final score of 60-57. Both teams came into the game fully prepared, making it a challenging encounter that showcased high-level skill and resilience on both sides. Following the victory, Uganda’s Augustus Owinyi shared his excitement with BCA TV, stating, “I am extremely happy to have won this tough tie against Mauritius. We all know that Mauritius is a very difficult team, and we are glad to have won a point for Team Uganda. Now, we have to remain focused and prepare ourselves well for the upcoming matches and also the individual events.”
Meanwhile, the second tie of the evening saw Comoros facing South Africa. South Africa emerged victorious, benefiting from the absence of a women’s team for Comoros. Despite the loss, Comoros continued to shine through their determination and their commitment to growing badminton within their nation. In an exclusive interview with BCA TV, men’s doubles specialist Ibrahim Ali Hadad from Comoros emphasized the importance of participation for his team’s development: “For us, participation is key to our development. As we all know, badminton has just begun in Comoros, and we are doing everything in our capacity to reach the level where the other big nations are. We are quite aware that it is a huge job, and we are ready to do what it takes.”
