The role of women coaches in Badminton is pivotal for the development of the sport in the African Continent. The BWF Level 1 coaching course through the BCA is trying to bridge the gap between Male and Female participation in the coaching aspect of Badminton. The BWF Level 1 Coaching Course which was held from 14th to 21st of March 2020 in Cape Town South Africa, focused on the important role women coaches can play in the development of Badminton whilst increasing the number of players and the level of Badminton in their respective countries.
The BCA in conjunction with Women In Badminton Commission organised this BWF Level 1 Coaching Course through their Regional Development Officer and Tutor, Bernadin Bokpè and Course Assistant & Regional Development Officer Ahmed Reda. It meant participants from 6 countries, namely Bostwana, Egypt ,Kenya , South Africa , Uganda & Zambia were gathered together to learn the importance of Women coaches, who play an essential role in the dissemination of Badminton across the countries mentioned.
“ This has been an eye opening experience. I have gained a lot of insight into the game and how to train children . I have also gained a lot of technical knowledge that i intend to use back home to better the sport” said Kenya’s Damary Kisiang’ani. She also thanked the BCA and Dr. Manoeng Leshota, Chairperson of the BCA Women in Badminton Commission, for having encouraged her to help other women join Badminton . One of the other participants from Uganda, Apio Betty, mentioned acquiring greater experience through the BWF Level 1 Coaching Course , learning the different coaching principles and coaching processes , where she will put those acquired skills and techniques into practice and share it for the enhancement of Badminton. As for Tamsyn Audibert from South Africa, she says the course covered the method of simplification towards children , and how coaches can use it to be better tutors.
