Following the BWF EGM held on 30 January 2021 and the prevailing COVID-19 situation in Africa, the BCA Council decided, in the interest of all delegates and stakeholders, to organize the BCA AGM 2021 virtually.
Clause 9.1 of the BCA Constitution states: “The AGM shall be held once a year no later than 30 June at a location and time decided by the Council”.
As you are aware, the COVID-19 cases are still rising in many African countries and it is highly unlikely that the situation will ameliorate by the 30th of June 2021 (or even later). Planning and organizing events, in a secure way, has become quite problematic and risky. Although we have tried to organize a few activities regionally (development courses), it is still challenging and hazardous to organize any continental event and this includes the AGM.
Based on the current situation and on our available resources, it will not be possible to host a physical AGM in the next few months and in the safest way possible. This is due to several reasons but mostly for the health and safety aspects and other logistical reasons.
Also, as this year’s AGM will be an elective one, we will ensure that the election process (including the online voting) is externally scrutineered and validated.
