DAY 4: EGYPT CROWNED THE ALL AFRICA 2021 MIXED TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS KINGS

The African under 19 champion Nour Youssri shines as Egypt takes Gold.

Egypt survived the onslaught of a spirited Algerian team to win Gold in the All Africa Mixed Team Championship in a tense encounter at the Lugogo Stadium in Uganda. A fete they repeated in 2017. Egypt, who qualified for the finals after fending off the hosts Uganda 3-0, lost the opening match to the Mammeri siblings in the mixed doubles match 2-0 against the experienced Ahmed Salah and the young Jana Ashraf.

” It is a good start for our team, as you know it’s an advantage to win the first game in such a tie. We are happy we managed to give our country a head start. Said Koceilla Mammeri, speaking to BCA Tv.

Algerian lead was short-lived as Doha Hany leveled the score in the Women’s singles, cruising past Halla Bouksani 2-0, who gave a good account of herself, almost causing an upset in the second game.

“I thank God I was able to play well and win the match for my country. It was a tough match and I made a lot of mistakes especially in the second game but I was finally able to control the match.” Doha said.

Algeria put their hopes in the Men’s Singles match between Abdel Rahim and Adham Hatem, but it wasn’t to be as the game ended controversially after a disputed call from the line judge. Level at 1-1, Rahim was in control of the third game when Adham smashed at the forehand side, and the line judge gave him the point, which Rahim did not agree. It was a slippery slope for Adham from that point as Rahim could not bring himself to concentrate and save the game. Adham won 2-1 to give the Egyptians a 2-1 advantage going into the Women’s Doubles match.

Nour Youssri overcame a shaky start to assist the experienced Doha Hany in the Women’s Doubles, beating Tanina Mammeri and Mounib Celia 2-0 to give the Egyptians the title.

“It was a very stressful game but I am happy we were able to win the title, especially the fact that our match gave our team the title. This Championships has given me a lot of experience” Nour Youssri

South Africa and hosts Uganda finished in third place.

Earlier in the day, following the tenets of the BCA newly enacted Constitution, the BCA formed the Athlete’s commission to handle and hear the player’s grievances. The commission consists of officials directly elected by the players in line with the BWF Constitution and the IOC charter. Speaking at the player’s meeting held at every championship, the commission’s Chairman, Mr. Donald Mabo from Zambia, updated the players on the various grievances raised in the previous meetings held in Nigeria and Egypt.

“I am happy to announce that the BCA has addressed all the issues we raised in our previous meetings. BCA has and will continue to have the best interest of the players at heart. In this regard, as they continue tirelessly to look for opportunities to realize the dream of having a centre of excellence in Africa, they will provide scholarships to our top talented players.” He said.

BCA will give the Winner of the Men’s and Women’s singles match a one-month scholarship to train at the center of excellence in Denmark. Additionally, to assist the developing Member Associations, the BCA will also sponsor three talented players with scholarships to train in other high-performance centers. Winners of the All Africa under 19 were also awarded similar scholarships. BCA also identified and sponsored two young talented players from Cameroon and Benin for the scholarships.

L’Égypte a survécu aux assauts d’une équipe algérienne fougueuse pour remporter l’or du Championnat d’Afrique par Equipe Mixte 2021 lors d’une rencontre tendue au Lugogo Stadium en Ouganda. Un exploit qu’ils ont répété en 2017. L’Égypte, qui s’est qualifiée pour la finale après avoir repoussé les hôtes ougandais 3-0, a perdu le match d’ouverture face à la fratrie Mammeri dans le match de double mixte 2-0 contre l’expérimenté Ahmed Salah et la jeune Jana Ashraf.

” C’est un bon début pour notre équipe, comme vous le savez c’est un avantage de gagner le premier match dans une telle rencontre. Nous sommes heureux d’avoir réussi à donner une longueur d’avance à notre pays. a déclaré Koceilla Mammeri au micro de BCA Tv.

L’avance algérienne a été de courte durée puisque Doha Hany a égalisé le score dans le Simple Dames, en battant Halla Bouksani 2-0, qui a donné une bonne image d’elle-même, provoquant presque un bouleversement dans le deuxième match.

“Je remercie Dieu d’avoir pu bien jouer et gagner le match pour mon pays. C’était un match difficile et j’ai fait beaucoup d’erreurs, surtout dans le deuxième match, mais j’ai finalement pu contrôler le match.” a déclaré Doha.

L’Algérie a placé ses espoirs dans le match de Simple Hommes entre Abdel Rahim et Adham Hatem, mais cela n’a pas été le cas car le match s’est terminé de manière controversée après une décision contestée du juge de ligne. A égalité à 1-1, Rahim contrôlait le troisième jeu quand Adham a frappé sur le côté du coup droit, et le juge de ligne lui a donné le point, ce que Rahim n’a pas accepté. C’était une pente glissante pour Adham à partir de ce moment, car Rahim ne pouvait pas se concentrer et sauver le match. Adham a gagné 2-1 pour donner aux Égyptiens un avantage de 2-1 avant le match de Double Dames.

Nour Youssri a surmonté un début de match difficile pour aider l’expérimenté Doha Hany dans le Double Dames, battant Tanina Mammeri et Mounib Celia 2-0 pour donner le titre aux Egyptiens.

“C’était un match très stressant mais je suis heureuse que nous ayons pu remporter le titre, surtout le fait que notre match a donné le titre à notre équipe. Ce championnat m’a apporté beaucoup d’expérience” Nour Youssri

L’Afrique du Sud et l’Ouganda, pays hôte, ont terminé à la troisième place.

Plus tôt dans la journée, conformément aux principes de la nouvelle constitution de la BCA, la BCA a formé la commission des athlètes pour traiter et entendre les doléances des joueurs. Cette commission est composée d’officiels directement élus par les joueurs, conformément aux statuts de la BWF et à la charte du CIO. S’exprimant lors de la réunion des joueurs qui a lieu lors de chaque championnat, le Président de la commission, M. Donald Mabo de Zambie, a informé les joueurs des divers griefs soulevés lors des réunions précédentes tenues au Nigéria et en Égypte.

“Je suis heureux d’annoncer que la BCA a abordé tous les problèmes que nous avons soulevés lors de nos précédentes réunions. La BCA a et continuera d’avoir à cœur le meilleur intérêt des joueurs. À cet égard, alors qu’ils continuent inlassablement à chercher des opportunités pour réaliser le rêve d’avoir un centre d’excellence en Afrique, ils fourniront des bourses d’études à nos meilleurs joueurs talentueux.” Il a ajouté.

La BCA offrira au vainqueur du match de Simple Hommes et Dames une bourse d’un mois pour s’entraîner au centre d’excellence au Danemark. En outre, pour aider les associations membres en développement, la BCA parrainera également trois joueurs talentueux avec des bourses pour s’entraîner dans d’autres centres de haute performance. Les gagnants des Championnats d’Afrique des moins de 19 ans ont également reçu des bourses similaires. La BCA a également identifié et parrainé deux jeunes joueurs talentueux du Cameroun et du Bénin pour les bourses de perfectionnement.
