Uganda Para badminton International 2021 Day 2

“African Prince” Mamvumvu Kidila of Congo Democratic, a thorn in the flesh of India as Elizabeth Mwesigwa, claims a slice of the pie.

Prince Mamvumvu Kidila of Congo, no pun intended, rained on India’s dominance at the Uganda Para badminton International 2021 day 2 of matches. Exacting sweet revenge on his loss in the first match of the SU5 round-robin matches to India’s Sumith Kumar Garg, Prince Kidila was unstoppable on the second day of the tournament.

“I was too nervous yesterday, and it cost me my match. My opponent was very experienced, and he took advantage of my nervousness. Prince Kidila told BCA Tv.

Today I feel I am a much better player. The mixed doubles match was difficult since they played most of the shots to my inexperienced partner from Benin Alassane Yacoubou, but I am happy we won.”

India was represented in the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles by Premukar Ezhil and Neethu Kureel. Neethu and Alassane are both recipients of the BWF Female Para badminton Participation Grant.

“I am happy about the win, it has been an incredible journey for me, and I would like to thank the BWF for supporting me through the BWF Participation Grant. When my federation and my Paralympic Committee told me that I got the grant, I thought it must be because I am the best in Benin, but on reaching here, I was humbled at the level of female talent in Africa,” Said Alassane.

Neethu Kureel on her part, participating in her first International tournament found out about Para badminton through her coach.

I owe my success to my coach, who has been instrumental to my growth in the game. I still have a long way to go in my training, but I hope I will be a force to reckon with in the near future, she said.

Asked how Para badminton has impacted her life, she said, “Para badminton has given me social status among players and my community which is a good feeling especially to a disabled person, and I thank the BWF for this amazing opportunity.

In his second game of the day in the Men’s singles SU5, Prince Kidila dispatched India’s Smit Harshadbhai Patel 21-10 21-7 to end India’s run.

Elizabeth Mwesigwa was not to be left behind as she produced one of the best performances in her career to beat Neethu Kureel in the closely contested match 21-16 21-17

“I was so scared coming into this match since it was my first time playing someone from India, and they are so good. I thank God I have been able to win all my matches, praying that this is an indication I will win a medal for my country.”

India’s entourage at the tournament is led by Pramod Bhagat, currently ranked world number one in Para badminton men’s singles SL3. Pramod is also Tokyo’s 2020 summer Paralympics Gold Medallist in men’s singles SL3.

Another notable star in the contingent is the 2017 Para badminton World Championships Silver medallist and Tokyo 2020 Bronze Medallist. He spoke to BCA Tv about his experience at the Uganda International Para badminton International.

“I am happy with the level of organization of this tournament and the quality of athletes Africa is producing. Players like Prince Kidila have impressed us. I would like to urge other elite Para badminton to add this event to their calendars“

Le prince Mamvumvu Kidila du Congo, sans mauvais jeu de mots, a mis fin à la domination de l’Inde lors de la deuxième journée des matchs de l’Uganda Para badminton International 2021. Prenant une douce revanche sur sa défaite dans le premier match des rencontres de groupe SU5 contre l’Indien Sumith Kumar Garg, le Prince Kidila était inarrêtable lors de la deuxième journée du tournoi.

“J’étais trop nerveux hier, et cela m’a coûté mon match. Mon adversaire était très expérimenté, et il a profité de ma nervosité. a déclaré le Prince Kidila à BCA Tv.

Aujourd’hui, je sens que je suis un bien meilleur joueur. Le match de double mixte a été difficile car ils ont joué la plupart des coups sur ma partenaire inexpérimentée du Bénin Alassane Yacoubou, mais je suis heureux que nous ayons gagné.”

L’Inde était représentée dans le double mixte SL3-SU5 par Premukar Ezhil et Neethu Kureel. Neethu et Alassane sont toutes deux bénéficiaires de la bourse de participation au Para badminton féminin de la BWF.

“Je suis heureuse de cette victoire, ce fut un voyage incroyable pour moi, et je voudrais remercier la BWF de m’avoir soutenue par le biais de la bourse de participation de la BWF. Quand ma fédération et mon comité paralympique m’ont dit que j’avais obtenu la bourse, j’ai pensé que c’était parce que j’étais la meilleure au Bénin, mais en arrivant ici, j’ai été humiliée par le niveau du talent féminin en Afrique”, a déclaré Alassane.

De son côté, Neethu Kureel, qui participe à son premier tournoi international, a découvert le Para badminton grâce à son entraîneur.

Je dois mon succès à mon entraîneur, qui a joué un rôle déterminant dans ma progression dans ce sport. J’ai encore un long chemin à parcourir dans mon entraînement, mais j’espère que je serai une force à prendre en compte dans un avenir proche, a-t-elle déclaré.

Interrogée sur l’impact du para badminton sur sa vie, elle a répondu : “Le para badminton m’a donné un statut social parmi les joueurs et ma communauté, ce qui est un bon sentiment, surtout pour une personne handicapée, et je remercie la BWF pour cette incroyable opportunité.

Dans son deuxième match de la journée dans le simple masculin SU5, Prince Kidila a éliminé l’Indien Smit Harshadbhai Patel 21-10 21-7 pour mettre fin au parcours de l’Inde.

Elizabeth Mwesigwa n’a pas été en reste puisqu’elle a réalisé l’une des meilleures performances de sa carrière en battant Neethu Kureel dans un match très disputé 21-16 21-17.

“J’avais très peur en entrant dans ce match, car c’était la première fois que je jouais contre une joueuse indienne, et elle est tellement douée. Je remercie Dieu d’avoir pu gagner tous mes matchs, en priant que cela soit une indication que je vais gagner une médaille pour mon pays.”

L’entourage de l’Inde au tournoi est dirigé par Pramod Bhagat, actuellement classé numéro un mondial du Para badminton en simple hommes SL3. Pramod est également le médaillé d’or des Jeux Paralympiques d’été de 2020 à Tokyo en simple hommes SL3.

Une autre star notable du contingent est le médaillé d’argent des Championnats du monde de Para badminton 2017 et médaillé de bronze de Tokyo 2020. Il a parlé à BCA Tv de son expérience aux Internationaux de Para badminton d’Ouganda.

“Je suis heureux du niveau d’organisation de ce tournoi et de la qualité des athlètes que l’Afrique produit. Des joueurs comme Prince Kidila nous ont impressionné. Je voudrais inciter les autres élites du Para badminton à ajouter cet événement à leur calendrier. “
